
The dilapidated Century Three Mall could begin to come down as early as next week.
Last week, the building’s owner Moonbeam Capital filed demolition permits and hired contractor Neiswonger, which has brought equipment to the West Mifflin site, to begin razing the mall.
Demolition is expected to start with the tiered parking garage and then progress to the rest of the structure.
Earlier this month, seven people were arrested for trespassing at the abandoned mall.
There's been a significant increase in trespassing and vandalism, including YouTubers trespassing on the property for content since the mall was abandoned.
In late January, Allegheny County District Attorney Stephen Zappala has announced he is filing a criminal incitement against the owners of Century III Mall.
Century III Mall PA LLC was charged with a felony, causing or risking a catastrophe along with make a public nuisance. That charge is a misdemeanor.
When Century III opened in 1979, it was the third largest mall in the world.
