Eugene DePasquale says Fern Hollow Bridge collapse could've been prevented

The collapse of the Fern Hollow Bridge could have been prevented, according to former-Pennsylvania Auditor Eugene DePasquale.

Two years ago, DePasquale sounded the alarm about the appropriation of money designed to repair the state's 2,800 structurally-deficient bridges.

His audit found the state diverted billions of dollars earmarked for the reconstruction and repair of the bridges and roads in this area; money he says that could have prevented Friday's tragedy in Frick Park.

"$4.2 billion that when you are pumping your gas you are assuming the money is going to fix roads and bridges has been diverted to basically paying local police for governments that have gotten rid of their police departments."

Appearing on the Marty Griffin show, DePasquale urged the governor and the legislature to restore the funding and match the billions of dollars coming the state's way under the trillion dollar infrastructure bill.
