A local developer wants to replace vacant buildings downtown with bocce courts.

The Troiani Group wants to create First Place Outdoor Recreation and Entertainment, a group of four outdoor bocce courts at the intersection of First Avenue and Market Street.

In a presentation with the city planning commission, Steven Regan said the lots are currently dilapidated buildings.

“They’re condemned for a reason, they are in a dire structural situation, exterior brick has been falling off for some time,” said Regan.

Developers proposed a gated facility, which would include an ADA court, picnic table and special events.

Regan says it would help bring people in different office buildings and the community together.
