The push continues to bring new business to Downtown Pittsburgh to fuel pandemic recovery.
According to the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership, about 84,000 people came downtown daily in January, still 34 percent lower than 2019.
It's been mostly fueled by workers remaining at home, or at least part of the time.
But CEO and President Jeremy Waldrup says the push continues to draw new businesses downtown, with several in the works.
He adds all Downtown shoppers and diners have an important role to play, "It's kind of incumbent on our region to get down here an patronize these businesses. Folks say they want say they want a downtown with great dining and shopping options, it's on all of us to get down here and support these folks. They've been through a lot."
It appears they're doing that at the recently added a Target in the old Kaufmann building. Waldrup says business there is exceeding expectation
The design is a template for what leaders hope to do with other empty space downtown, turn them into more in-demand retail and residential space.
Waldrup said they're also working with businesses on Sixth Avenue to make the area more of a destination for visitors.
