In less than 48 hours, Duquesne Light's contract with its union workers expires.
Earlier this week, members of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 29 voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike. Both sides have been negotiating but there's no indication yet an agreement is near.
In the recent 2019 contract negotiations, Duquesne Light employees posed the possibility of a strike. However, this strike was avoided when both the union and the company successfully reached a four-year contract deal spanning from October 1, 2019, to September 30, 2023.
The utility provides service to approximately 610,000 customers in Allegheny and Beaver counties.
