President Biden announced that he will sign the bill that approves sending $2.2 million to the university for their new medical school as soon as it reaches his desk.

The nation is currently seeing a shortage of primary care physicians, in which Duquesne said the building of the new school should help address.

The request for funding was reportedly proposed by U.S. Representative Mike Doyle who is now retiring, according to The Post-Gazette.

Most of the funds will go into helping out the construction of the new school and will also be able to give the first class entering portable handheld ultrasound devices to examine patients.

This is now the largest investment in Duquesne University’s history. The construction is already underway and set to be completed by fall of 2024.
