An Elizabeth man has been indicted on charges of making threats to a local public official and lying to the FBI about guns he owns.

29 year old Edward Owens Jr. had already been named in an earlier federal criminal complaint in connection with threats aimed at the official, who is not being identified.

Prosecutors say Owens threatened the official through a social media app, saying "Go Back to Israel, or better yet, exterminate yourself and save us the trouble."

They say Owens also lied to the FBI as they were investigating the whereabouts of some guns.

He allegedly told them they were with his mother when he had a Smith and Wesson pistol in his car prior to his interview with agents.
