Work is paused at the Courthouse Square demolition site in Washington County after an excavator tipped over this morning.
The incident happened around 9:35 a.m., and a 9-1-1 supervisor confirmed it to KDKA Radio.
“An excavator fell into a hole,” said the operator. “It was just one person injured, the person in the excavator, they did not go to the hospital.”
Last March, commissioners approved a $1.6 million bid from a Detroit-based demolition company to take down the Courthouse Square building and its parking garage.”
In a statement released by Washington County, they say they are aware of the accident and the operator of the equipment was checked out at the scene as a precautionary measure.
The County has “requested a public safety incident report from the general contractor including the name of the operator and the company he was employed by as well as an update on the operator’s condition.”
