It’s been nearly an entire year since an elderly veteran’s dog was taken during a carjacking at a shopping center in East Donegal Township, but Lucky’s family hasn’t given up hope.
10-year-old Lucky was in 87-year-old Willard Martz’s 2016 silver Focus when police say Kenneth Crider of Poolsville, Maryland drove off with it.
Crider was arrested days later in North Carolina following a pursuit by police on Interstate 95.
But Lucky was nowhere to be found.
Crider said the Airedale Terrier mix was dropped off at a rest stop on I-95 before he was arrested, but he was never found.
But there is renewed hope that Lucky may still be out there.
Tracy Ruffner, who runs the Bring Lucky HOME to PA Facebook page, tells KDKA Radio they have received new information they are trying to authenticate.
She says there is a possibility Lucky is somewhere in the West Virginia/Maryland area between Hagerstown and Harpers Ferry.

Ruffner says if Lucky is still out there, they believe he was taken in by someone that doesn’t realize he is missing.
“We want them to see that he is a missing dog,” said Ruffner. She added that they want people to know that an elderly owner is still looking for his beloved dog.
Ruffner says they also want the people that may have taken Lucky in to know that they’re not in trouble, they just want to reunite a dog with his owner.
“The family is still holding out hope and so are we,” says Ruffner.
