The family of a man who died last year in Downtown Pittsburgh has filed a wrongful death lawsuit.
24-year-old Thomas Spencer the third died on April 17 of last year after jumping out of a seventh-floor window at the Renewal Center halfway house Downtown.
His family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the facility and the federal government, alleging that Spencer's federal probation officer and Renewal employees left him without any supervision following a disagreement on the day of his death.
Spencer's family said the center knew he had a propensity to jump out of windows and they had a duty to keep him safe as long as he was in their custody.
Spencer had been at the Renewal Center since October 2022, when he was released from prison.
