With the trial for accused Tree of Life shooter Robert Bowers just days away, several families who lost loved ones in the attack are advocating for the death penalty in the case.

Diane and Michelle Rosenthal, sisters of victims David and Cecil, held a brief news conference today.

They said their family and six other families of victims expressed their support for the death penalty in a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland in 2021.

"Our family has suffered long and hard over the last four years, we don't want to have to continue to have to defend ourselves and our position, we want justice," they said in a statement.

They said they wanted to clear up a common misconception in the media that all families of the victims are against the death penalty.

Two of the three congregations, Dor Hadash and New Light, who lost members in the attack have publicly asked prosecutors to consider life without parole.
