Fan in critical condition after fall from stands at PPG Paints Arena

The investigation continues after a fan fell from the 200 level stands at PPG Paints Arena during the Penguins game against the Blues Monday night.

It happened during the first period when the fan plummeted to the 100 level, hitting someone in the suites level as well.

The fan who fell was taken to the hospital with critical injuries.

The Penguins released the following statement:

The Pittsburgh Penguins can confirm that an adult male fell from the upper concourse to the lower bowl at PPG Paints Arena earlier this evening. The individual was immediately attended to by Pittsburgh EMS as well as PPG Paints Arena personnel and has since been transported to a local hospital. Although there is no further information at this time, the Penguins and OVG Management Group are closely monitoring the situation. Our concerns remain with the individual and his family at this time.

Team Captain Sidney Crosby said after the game, “It doesn’t feel right to be talking about points.”

Adding, “Our thoughts and prayers are with that person.”

Over the weekend, a worker fell from the scoreboard at Acrisure Stadium while preparing for the Sunday Night Football broadcast.

This past spring, a fan at PNC Park fell from the outfield seats onto the field and suffered serious injuries, but has since recovered.
