Fan injured after falling from stands at PNC Park identified

The man that fell from the right field wall at PNC Park on Wednesday evening in the 7th inning of a game between the Pirates and Cubs has been identified.

The Tribune Review has identified the man as 20-year-old Kavan Markwood, a graduate of South Allegheny High School.

Markwood played high school football at South Allegheny as well.

A spokesperson for South Allegheny provided the following statement to KDKA Radio:

The South Allegheny School District is keeping former student and standout athlete Kavan Markwood in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Kavan, a 2022 graduate of South Allegheny High School, is currently hospitalized in serious condition.

Kavan is a 2022 graduate of South Allegheny High School, made a lasting impact on the South Allegheny community, both as an athlete and as a young man of character. During his senior year, he was named TEAM MVP of the football team and earned First Team All-Conference honors. His hard work and determination earned him a place on the football team at Walsh University in Ohio, where he continued to pursue his passion for the game.

Kavan is best known for his resilience, strength, and kindness. He is a friend to all—someone who lifts others up and faces challenges with courage and grace.

He fell over 20 feet from the Clemente wall after a double by Andrew McCutchen gave the Pirates a 4-3 lead.

Markwood attended to by Pittsburgh Police, EMS and the medical staff of both the Pirates and Cubs.

He was taken to Allegheny Hospital and remains in critical condition

Any updates will be provided by medical staff and the family.
