Farmers' Almanac predicts frigid and snowy winter for Pittsburgh area

Winter weather is still several months away but the Farmers' Almanac is out with its annual forecast and they say we can expect a “wild ride.”

Sandi Duncan, editor of the Farmers’ Almanac for the year 2026” tells KDKA Radio they expect a cold and snowy winter.

‘It looks like that winter is going to show up a little earlier than it does on the calendar,” said Duncan. “We see some rain and wet snow for (Pittsburgh) the middle of December.”

Duncan also said they expect a cold Christmas but without snow and for New Year’s Eve and day wet snow and rain is forecasted.

After we get into the new year, Duncan expected a bitter cold snap in January with a large snow storm in the middle of the month and continued “very cold snap” in mid-February.

The Farmers’ Almanac’s weather forecasting formula goes back to 1818.
