The defense attorney of a man who pleaded guilty to drunk and careless driving in the death of an 11-year-old girl is answering questions about a light sentence.
Jeffrey Glowatski was sentenced to 3–6 months in the Allegheny County Jail for the drunk-driving death of Roxanne Bonnoni nearly two years ago in Natrona.
Roxanne, who was hearing impaired, was hit by Glowatski’s Jeep at North Canal and Kuntz Streets.
His attorney, David Sharager, says the sentence may seem unfair, but the law is clear.
“The law designates the difference between a DUI where in the person’s DUI directly made the homicide happen and one that there’s nothing that would have been differently if the driver had been sober, the accident will would have occurred,” said Sharager.
He says the district attorney's office did a full and complete investigation.
“The sentence seems extremely light, but I want people to understand that the law was carefully explored, every investigation was done and the result was a fair one under the facts in the law,” said Sharager.
The Father of Roxanne, Anthony Csizmadia, called into KDKA Radio’s Marty Griffin to express his outrage, saying Glowatski got away with murder.
He also doesn’t believe the accident would’ve happened if Glowatski was sober.
Asked if he’s angry or sad, Csizmadia says he’s “just in shock.”
Csizmadia described Roxanne as an “angel, innocent little girl and she was smart, perfect and I couldn’t have asked for nothing better.”
