The first eaglet of 2023 hatched on Sunday in the Hays bald eagle nest.

It happened just after noon on March 26.

The bald eagle couple that occupies the Hays nest laid two eggs this year, one on February 17 and the other on February 20.

The Western Pennsylvania Audubon Society says it’s been almost 37 days since the first egg was laid.

They add bald eagle eggs usually take between 35 to 38 days to hatch.

They expect the second egg to hatch sometime this week.

What’s Next:

If you watch the live stream of the Hays eagle cam, the Audubon society says what you can expect next.

They say at least one eagle will be in the nest constantly with the eagle saying under the adult for warmth while the other egg will continue to be incubated until hatching.

Mom or dad will bring food back to the nest, tearing it up into small pieces for the eaglet to eat.

There was also some action at the U.S. Steel eagle nest in West Mifflin last weekend.
