PITTSBURGH (100.1 FM and AM 1020 KDKA) As summer of 2021 begins its final chapter, it was another summer where the world grappled with the fight against COVID-19.
Heading into August 2021, companies and organizations across the United States have begun reinstating a mask mandate and required vaccines for employees.
Within Allegheny County vaccine requirements are becoming a bigger deal, especially within new county employees.
County Executive Rich Fitzgerald on Thursday announced that all new hires are required to be vaccinated against the virus, and new measures were put in place for current unvaccinated employees.
Those already employed and unvaccinated will be required to wear masks and receive regular testing for COVID.
"Vaccination is the most effective tool that we have to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and to protect those who for reasons of age, health or other conditions cannot be vaccinated," said Fitzgerald. "As a government and essential service which has been open throughout the pandemic, with the vast majority of our employees here working, vaccination is the best way for to ensure that the public we serve is protected."
Visitors to county facilities are under the same sort of rules; If one is unvaccinated they are required to wear a mask and socially distance.
Fully vaccinated employees and visitors are open to make their own choice in regards to wearing a mask.
