A restaurant in Allegheny County is under Consumer Alert after 20 violations were reported during a recent inspection.
The Allegheny County Health Department says Chuan Xiang Hui on Atwood Street in Oakland has a rodent infestation and five other issues considered “high risk”.
Inspectors found extensive evidence of mouse urine and fresh droppings in different areas.
Mouse droppings were found on sheet trays in the kitchen, on the floor of the back-storage hallway and on low shelving, in a cabinet in the women’s bathroom and next to the bar area.
Mouse urine was found on the sides of bags of single-use to-go sauce lids.
Other high-risk issues include cans of bamboo shoots and baby corn with dents on the seams in a back-storage area.
A pan of bean sprouts was found on a ware washing table, temped at 61 degrees, well-above the safe zone of 41 degrees or lower.
A container of uncovered peeled potatoes soaking in water was stored right below and uncovered container of raw pork and uncovered raw fish.
The inspector saw an employee preparing raw pork with only one gloved hand.
“After preparation, the employee removed the glove, wiped the wok grill front counter with a wiping cloth, and returned to cooking,” the report reads, with the person not washing their hands at any time.
Another employee was seen coughing up phlegm and spitting it into a sink. That employee was not observed washing their hands after.
