A $50,000 investment from PNC Bank is helping Allegheny Health Network expand access to healthy food for local patients.
Colleen Ereditario, program manager for the AHN Healthy Food Centers says the program connects health care and nutrition through a “food-as-medicine” approach.
“Healthy food centers are a resource for food-insecure patients across the Allegheny Health Network, hospital footprint, whenever somebody goes to their doctor, they are screened with two food insecurity questions and if they screen positive, they get a referral to come to one of our healthy food center sites,” said Ereditario.
In recognition of the investment, the Healthy Food Center’s pantry space will now be called the PNC Pantry.
Since opening in 2020, the Jefferson Healthy Food Center has provided nearly 122,000 meals to local families.
