Foster families are needed for three severely malnourished puppies that were found taped up in a cardboard box on the side of the road.

White Oak Animal Safe Haven on Lincoln Way says they believe someone was trying to make some extra Christmas Cash.

In a Facebook post the shelter says they believe the two males and one female are around six-weeks-old and would be ready for Christmas.

But, the puppies became more trouble than they were worth for the person who would sell the dogs so they were abandoned.

“Our holidays just became a lot less merry and bright. Once again, we find ourselves cleaning up the messes of irresponsible owners. We really appreciate being overfull, stretched so thin ourselves mentally, emotionally, and physically, and putting more stress on the animals we’re already caring for! (Again, please note the sarcasm.),” the stressed-out non-kill shelter said.

The Haven says they urgently need to get the puppies in a foster home. While they are secure for a few days, the shelter is “severely underfunded” and workers have to overextend themselves.

Anyone interested in fostering can call 412-672-8901 and leave a message. The shetler says the dogs have a shot at doing well if they get the proper care.

The shelter doesn’t know the extend of the care that is needed.
