The Gainey administration is poised to announce a new Chief of Pittsburgh Police.

Larry Scirotto is a former assistant chief in Pittsburgh before retiring in 2018 and then briefly working as a police chief in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

Scirotto is one of three finalists for the job.

That short list included one controversial frontrunner, Ryan Lee, who was the police chief of Boise, Idaho, but city councilmembers expressed opposition.

The third finalist was former Pittsburgh police commander Jason Lando.

Mayor Ed Gainey will make the formal announcement very soon.
