Kelsey Morrison was fired from Geneva College in June for posting on her personal Instagram addressing the lack of inclusivity in the Christian community. One post said, “Queer people offer precious gifts to the church. Don’t miss out” and “Jesus is radically inclusive”.
On the Big K Morning Show Tuesday, she told Larry and Marty, “I don’t think I was aware how things could be misconstrued because of, oftentimes, polarizing political differences.”
Morrison states that there was no social media policy but other policies specific to Geneva College; “There are a lot of policies that you abide to – a personal statement of faith and the code of conduct which talks about, you know, we believe marriage is between a man and a woman. Which I am happy to sign and hold to as well.”
Geneva College made a statement addressing the situation;
"Geneva College is a Christ-centered academic community that provides a comprehensive education to equip students for faithful and fruitful service to God and neighbor.
"Geneva's biblical views and missional commitments are expressed in the Westminster Confession of Faith, Westminster Catechisms, the Testimony of the Reformed Presbyterian Church of North America (RPCNA), and various policies and documents adopted by the Synod of the RPCNA and by the College itself. At the same time, the College understands that different perspectives exist in other faith communities.
"In order to maintain its religious character and identity, the College draws its workforce from among those who are willing to model and annually reaffirm their commitment to the truths captured in these documents. The College reserves the right to take appropriate action, up to and including separation from employment, if an employee engages in behavior or expression that contradicts or undermines these views."
The former head coach also says that her views align with those of the College but she does not think they made the right decision in terminating her.
Morrison stated that she does not plan on taking any legal action and that she has accepted a new position at another university.
