More details after Kroger announces plan to buy Giant Eagle

Pittsburgh's Headlines: July 1, 2026

We’re learning more about the deal between Giant Eagle and Kroger.

Giant Eagle’s CEO Bill Artman tells KDKA Radio, while Kroger is going to buy the Pittsburgh-based grocer, Giant Eagle will retain its name “and it’s commitment to serving its customers as it always has – with the same familiar supermarkets and pharmacies, high-quality products and services, and dedicated Team Members.”

Giant Eagle will continue to run all of its grocery stories, pharmacies and Market District brands and will be a division of Kroger, similar to how the Cincinnati-based grocery operates its other divisions.

Kroger also will KEEP the Giant Eagle myPerks loyalty program, “while exploring additional opportunities to expand its reach.”

Giant Eagle’s headquarters will remain in Cranberry Township and will operate under the same leadership.
