So, how many pennies did people turn in Saturday during Giant Eagle's special penny collection day?
The supermarket says it received more than 100 million pennies at its 200 Giant Eagle and Market District supermarkets.
That's more than one million dollars in pennies....and customers received more than two million dollars in gift cards.
That's because the supermarket incentivized them with a gift card worth twice the number of pennies they turned in.
A Giant Eagle spokesperson says the pennies will allow the grocery chain to continue to give exact change to customers “for months to come.”
