Giant Eagle staying the course, still requiring masks

PITTSBURGH (NewsRadio KDKA) — Despite the CDC's indoor permissions for fully vaccinated residents, Giant Eagle announced Thursday that they'll be staying the course for the time being, at least for masks.

A communications representative from the grocery store chain released the following statement to make Giant Eagle's intentions clear for the immediate future: "At Giant Eagle, the health and well-being of our Team Members and guests remains our top priority. As we actively evaluate the shifts in state and CDC guidance, we will continue to require anyone working or shopping in our stores to wear a mask or face covering."

The news from the CDC earlier softened the mitigation requirements for those who have been vaccinated.

However, indoor mask-wearing and social distancing can still be applicable in such places as Giant Eagle and other local businesses.

While the CDC passed down its recommendations, it's ultimately up to each entity to decide how to proceed; legal mandates will remain in effect for some organizations.

And for now, things will remain the same for patrons of Giant Eagle, so masks are necessary for those who plan on visiting one of their locations.
