Giant Eagle has just announced it will be taking over customer prescriptions from 78 Rite Aid locations across Pennsylvania and Ohio, after the pharmacy company announced a second bankruptcy a few weeks ago.
In a release from Giant Eagle, the Pittsburgh-based grocer says prescriptions will be transferred to “the Giant Eagle Pharmacy location most convenient for customers.”
The closing on the purchase of prescriptions will happen in waves through the month of June.
Giant Eagle says they are working with Rite Aid and contacting its customers to ensure a smooth-as-possible transition.

Additionally, Giant Eagle says, "In two locations, Giant Eagle will assume operations of the existing Rite Aid pharmacy immediately following Rite Aid’s planned departure from those locations, with no planned interruption of store operations."
