Pa. State Senator sponsors bill to give parents power to 'opt-out' their child from mask mandates in schools

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio KDKA) - Pa. State Senator Judy Ward is sponsoring a bill that would allow parents and legal guardians to “opt out” their children from mask mandates in schools.

"Parents have great concerns about sending their students back to school, wearing a mask, not certain if that's the best and healthiest option for them," Ward said during the KDKA Radio Morning Show Friday. "Let's face it, there's not a lot of research out there on the effects of mask wearing for a young student all day."

Ward believes parents should decide what's best for their child.

"This is issue is between keeping people healthy, but also personal freedoms," said Ward. "There should be personal freedoms out there, so I think we need to respect both sides of this issue."
