The governor's proposal, called the PA opportunity program, would send the money to families making $80,000 or less.

Wolf has been pushing the payments since February, but they were excluded from the final budget.

He reintroduced it and Wolf has been pushing the program for the last few months amid the rising cost of inflation, also touting the state's financial position.

Wolf proposed pulling the money from the state surplus rather than covid relief.

“We have the ability to do this financially. We can actually help families get life saving medicine, out of state funds. We can help families stay in their homes. We can help families afford to eat. Why on earth wouldn’t we do it?”

Republicans generally haven't been on board with the plan, saying it would make inflation worse and many think it's a political stunt.
