House Bill 889 allows people who graduated from a nursing or dietician program in another country, but didn't get a license to take the exam in Pennsylvania.

It was recently signed by Governor Tom Wolf.

Matthew Mawby, co-founder of healthcare recruitment agency StaffHealth.com says filling nursing positions has been difficult nationwide, but Pennsylvania has been one of the more concerning states.

“From people being burnt out to nurses that have been in the field a long time, to retiring early, in Pennsylvania especially, we see it everyday as well. Pennsylvania has been hurting pretty bad.”

He says by helping more people become eligible for nursing jobs, Pennsylvania can better address the shortage.
