Some positive news for the family of Mason Martin, the Karns City High School quarterback who suffered a severe injury during a game in early September.
Mason Martin was injured during a game against Redbank Valley. He suffered a collapsed lung and brain bleed.
Mason's mom and dad updated the community this week.
Martin was in bad shape a week ago this past Tuesday. He was experiencing a fast, abnormal heart rhythm for about two minutes, which is very bad news.
The doctor moved in to see if he had in fact died.
When he went to check, Mason's head popped up.
"He and the nurse gave each other a surprised look," the update said.
"He did the other eye and again looked at the nurse and nodded while she busted out the biggest grin. He looked at me and said, 'Okay, we'll just continue on.'"
After that, Stacy and Denny say he started to improve. "It was as if body just reset itself."
He was able to come off most of his medications and took him off sedation slowly on Sunday.
He was also able to breath on his own for five hours straight on Monday and doctors say they don't know why Mason won't be able to now, make a full recovery.
Again, things can change quickly but we're just going to enjoy this moment. Thank you all. Keep praying and keep fighting for him because he's coming back!
The family also thanked the community for attending a benefit for Mason and his family over the weekend.
