A very positive update on severely injured Karns City quarterback Mason Martin, who has been hospitalized since early September.

Mason’s father Denny said he’s done “something new” almost every day.

“He has been able to eat ice cream and sherbet,” said Martin in a Facebook post. “He has on occasions been able to nod his head yes or no. He has been turning his head, scanning and taking in his surroundings. He is trying to vocalize when asked to but his vocal cords just don’t seem to be ready yet. He has grasped items and held on to them.”

He also had his trach removed earlier this weekend.

“This has been huge as he seems so much more comfortable and his coughing has decreased greatly,” said Denny.

Denny says that Mason was transferred from Mercy Hospital and UPMC Children’s Hospital, where he will continue physical therapy.

“So please continue to pray and fight with us as we begin yet another chapter of his comeback. Thanks for everything,” said Martin.

Mason was injured on September 1, suffering a serious head injury with bleeding.

GoFundMe page is still available for those that want to donate to support Mason and his family.
