Grocery chain opening first Pittsburgh location next week

The Fresh Market opens on March 18

The Fresh Market has set an opening date for its first Pittsburgh store.

The specialty grocer is taking over a former Whole Foods along Centre Avenue in Pittsburgh's Shadyside neighborhood on March 18.

No one has occupied the space since Whole Foods moved one neighborhood over, into East Liberty, in 2022.

The Fresh Market is known for its premium beef, hot meals, bakery products and organic produce.

“Guests can look forward to an exceptional shopping experience covering everything from the freshest produce and high-quality ingredients to our restaurant and bar concept where shopper can enjoy hot, made-in-house meals and beer and wine selections,” Fresh Market spokesperson Sam Wroblewski tells KDKA Radio.

Doors will open at 7 a.m. on March 18 with a ribbon cutting scheduled for 8:30 a.m.

Food samples and giveaways will be taking place during the opening celebration with more giveaways on Saturday, March 21.

Fresh Market will also host a happy hour between 4 and 7 p.m. on Friday, March 20 for guests to sample the bar menu.
