It’s official, popular grocery chain Wegman’s is coming to the Pittsburgh area.

The grocery giant announced plans on Monday for a brand-new Wegmans store in Cranberry Township.

It will be the grocer’s first Pittsburgh location.

The new Wegman’s will be at Cool Spring Drive, right next to the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex and will be about 115,000 square feet in size.

“Cranberry Township is home to many exceptional businesses that enhance the quality of life for residents and visitors alike. We are delighted that Wegmans has chosen Cranberry Township as its first location in the Pittsburgh area,” said Cranberry Township Manager Daniel Santoro.

Like other Wegmans locations, the Cranberry story will have grocery, a large selection of prepared foods, beer, wine and more.

An opening date has yet to be determined but between 400 to 500 employees will be hired for the new store.

“We’ve received thousands of requests for a Wegmans in the Pittsburgh region since opening our first Pennsylvania store over 30 years ago,” said Dan Aken, vice president of real estate and store planning. “We’re excited to have finally found the right location to bring Wegmans to the Pittsburgh area.”

Wegmans will be part of a development called Cranberry Springs, which will also feature other retail, office and residential space.

Wegman’s operates over 110 stores along the East Coast with over 54,000 employees and $12.5 billion in annual sales.

Wegman’s was founded in Rochester, New York in 1916.
