
A Hill District grocery store that opened with fanfare is set to pause operations after a year in business.
The URA has released a statement that Salem's Market is closing its struggling Hill District Location.
It says, it's learned that after just one year, a full-service supermarket cannot be supported at this time.
In a statement sent to KDKA Radio by a spokesperson “The store says it remains focused on making the best decisions for its business, employees and the Hill District community.”
Salem's says it plans to engage in meaningful conversations with the community and will share appropriate updates, for now, it's temporarily closing its Centre Avenue location this Sunday.
Salem’s on Penn Avenue in the Strip District and Salem’s on Forbes Avenue on the Carnegie Mellon campus will continue operating as normal.
