Gun thefts from vehicles are up sharply in the U.S.

According to Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Lt. Adam Reed, law enforcement has seen an increase in the number of firearms stolen from vehicles.

“Often time, the owners leave the firearms in there, believing them to be secure but the firearms are then stolen from the vehicle and they make their way to the black market or, unfortunately are used in other crime,” said Reed.

Lt Reed says the numbers in PA over the last 2 years are down from the 2021 total.

However, nationwide Per Capita, the numbers nationally are going up.

“The numbers are showing roughly 63 per 100,000 people and that is an increase from 2013 when we saw about 21 thefts per 100,000 people,” said Reed.
