A fundraiser to help support a family in the Hampton basketball community after a devastating house fire is underway.
A GoFundMe has been established by the friends of Erin and Nate Jay after a fire damaged their house in the Hampton area last week.
The fire is believed to have started when an e-bike battery exploded in a shed and quickly spread to the home.
Luckily, the Jays didn’t experience a total loss, but most of their belongings were destroyed by smoke and water damage.
The Jay family also lost one of their cars during the fire.
While the house is not a complete loss, the family is currently living in a hotel and not sure when they were be able to move back in.
“The funds raised will help Erin and Nate cover insurance gaps and the lag time before any assistance arrives,” the GoFundMe says. “Nate, a contractor, lost many of his tools in the fire, making it difficult for him to work and support his family.”
Friends say the Jay family is always supporting other in the community and now they need help.
