One of the only two remaining independent healthcare systems in the Pittsburgh region is closing its doors Monday.
Citing declining patient volume and reimbursement for care from commercial insurers, Heritage Valley Health System is closing its Kennedy Township hospital.
Among the services that will end is emergency room care, inpatient behavioral health, outpatient surgery, diagnostic imaging and lung rehabilitation.
The services will be moved to the system’s other two hospitals, with Heritage Valley Sewickley being the closest eight miles from the Kennedy campus.
In a release, Heritage Valley says the following services will continue to be offered at the facility:
ConvenientCare Walk-in Clinic (Opens July 7, 2025: Monday - Saturday from 8 am until 7:30 pm and Sunday from 8 am until 3:30 pm)
- Lab Draw Services (Opens July 7, 2025: Monday - Friday from 7 am until 3 pm; closed from 12-12:30 pm daily)
- Physician Offices
Outpatient cardiac rehab will be relocated to Robinson Township Medical Neighborhood Building.
Outpatient surgery moves to the Sewickley campus and to the Heritage Valley Ambulatory Surgery Center
“The Heritage Valley Senior Living Community, Kennedy Township Wound Care Center, Pain Treatment Center, Northwest Ambulance, and School of Nursing will not be impacted by these changes and will continue to operate at their current locations,” Heritage Valley said on Facebook.
Two years ago, the hospital's Intensive Care Unit was closed along with cutting its number of beds down from 120 to 77.
Staff members will be offered other jobs in the system and those who choose to leave will be offered severance packages.
The hospital was previously known as Ohio Valley General Hospital, before it was acquired by Heritage Valley in 2019.
