A PA state Senate committee hearing is underway looking at what’s driving up food costs for consumers and employers.
The president of United Food and Commercial Workers Local 1776, Wendell Young, says uncertainty and tariffs are two major factors.
“A constant carousel of what is subject to tariff and what isn’t, the lack of guidance from the Department of Homeland Security and what class of immigrant works are allowed to stay or not and the modeling on how the Big Beautiful Bill will impact SNAP benefits for Pennsylvania consumers all contribute to this uncertainty,” said Young.
Young says unclear tariff decisions make it harder for businesses to plan and can lead to higher prices.
