The President of RIDC in the Mon Valley is optimistic about the regional impact of the recently announced deal between U.S. Steel and Nippon Steel.

Don Smith believes that while the Japanese company has yet to fully take over U.S. Steel, its investment in the Mon Valley will be a huge boost to the local economy.

"The lights are all green and it's moving forward, and we're really looking forward to those, you know, couple of billion dollar investment in the Mon Valley to keep those steel-making jobs there and really grow the presence in our region," he told KDKA Radio.

No word on yet on when any new construction will begin.
