An update on the local high school quarterback who has been battling a life-threatening injury for nearly 4 months.

Karns City quarterback Mason Martin suffered a serious brain injury during a game in early September.

His father Denny says on Facebook, that Mason completed a second week of rehab over the holiday weekend.

On the positive side, Mason is able to vocalize his discomfort, which is actually a good sign. He is also to answer questions through blinking.

Denny says the frustrating news is that Mason has been unable to duplicate arm and leg movements he was able to make during the first week of rehab.

He also shared the reality of rehab:

I don’t think it would be fair to make you believe his days are all sunshine and rainbows. Most days are filled with frustration and heartache watching your loved one not able to respond to the simplest commands. Then he does something amazing and you’re filled with so much hope and joy that all the pain and suffering is worth it.

Denny says his son has also had a hard time with coughing up “thick secretions.”

The Martin family continues to remain appreciative of all the support they're receiving.

A GoFundMe continues to be available for those that want to help support the family.
