Hit and run suspect barricades self in East Hills home of special needs child, SWAT called

A man is facing multiple charges after a hit and run accidents lead to a SWAT situation early Sunday morning in an East Hills home.

Pittsburgh Police say patrolling officers actually witnessed a vehicle hit another head on. It happened on Calistoga Street before 2:45am Sunday morning.


The driver of one vehicle fled the scene and officers followed. The male driver barricaded himself into a home on Park Hill Drive.

The residents of the home were inside and a child with special needs was sleeping. SWAT was called to the scene.

The family left the home safely, but officers remained inside with the child as the family didn't want him disturbed.

After the driver refused verbal commands to come out of the home, police sent in a K9. The man surrendered and he was taken into custody around 4am.
