Hometown Tour: Wade's Breakfast and Grille

Hometown Tour
KDKA Radio

Everyone says they'd like to own a little restaurant or bar….something small in a quaint community.  Well, Karen and Allen Wade are "living the dream."  They found that very spot on Washington Ave in Export.

Larry & I were greeted immediately with great conversation and unbelievable homemade donuts before the place even opened.  The donuts are incredible.

My first was filled with blueberries and drizzled with chocolate.  The second one was filled with apple.  I loved each one equally.

The regular customers were arriving before the show even got on the air at 5am.  Wade's made its mark on Export early on.

Karen and Allen opened the place in November 2019 - just before COVID-19 hit.  While many other establishments closed for weeks - the Wade's figured out how to stay open and offer take out.  The hungry customers became loyal friends.

Wade's is cool.  A 13-table family diner with a very welcoming entryway complete with pews from a former church serving as benches.  On the opposite side is the stainless-steel counter.

Karen says the counter is like sitting at good bar without the alcohol.  Regulars say that the conversation can be "an early morning attitude adjustment."

If you are grumpy or in a bad mood then stop in - you'll leave happy and smiling…and full.  It felt so much like being at a family reunion.

The town is part of the Franklin Regional School District where the emphasis is on the 3-A's: Arts, Academics, and Athletics.

There is a pride in this very welcoming community.  And, a humble honesty in all the new neighbors we met.  How honest and fun are the diners and residents of Export?

As I introduced myself to a few folks Jan shouted "Hey, Kevin.  Kennywood is open."  Yup.  I rushed out of the house this morning.

Fortunately, my belt was tightened.
