OPINION: Hometown Tour: Kelly O's Diner in Warrendale

PITTSBURGH (Newsradio KDKA) - Everyone seems to know Kelly O’s! Maybe it is because the spot with amazing breakfasts was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins, & Dives. Maybe it is because Kelly O’s has become an iconic place to start your day in our city. Maybe it is the freshly squeezed orange juice or the wonderfully oversized M. Cibrone & Sons toast. It could be the attention to detail from every staff member. Donna arrived early to get the front of the house ready - making sure every aspect was double-checked before doors opened. Adam did the same in the kitchen. But, I am guessing that all of the passion, pride, warmth, and love emanates from Kelly herself. Her strong, friendly, neighborly leadership seems to bring like-minded energy out of others who are proud to work with her…or simply start their day with a warm cup and a hot plate at her place. From the very humble beginnings, what started as a dream to feed her two kids years ago after moving back home to Pittsburgh ‘Kelly O’s’ has grown three locations. There is the legendary spot in the Strip District. There is the location in the North Hills. And, then there is the new place: Larry and I were welcomed with open arms at Kelly O’s of Warrendale. A gorgeous, comforting and convenient diner that opened during the pandemic. That takes guts! Yes. Kelly O’Connor has knocked it out of the park again. I referred to it as the palace of diners. It is big, beautiful and, yet, still very much cozy & breakfasty. A LOT of breakfast. The food kept coming - biscuit & gravy, Pittsburgh Eggs Benedict, waffles, pancakes, OMG, sausage. Hot Italian sausage or traditional. Larry and I were treated to a virtual buffet or assembly line from the kitchen as we broadcast live. No wonder the place is known as the ‘Breakfast of Champyinz!’ We cannot thank Kelly O and her staff enough for the hospitality.

Continued success both professionally and personally.
