Homicides in Allegheny County spike in October

But the number of homicides for the year is still down

October saw a dramatic spike in the number of homicides in Allegheny County.

Now that the October numbers are in, as well as those for the first few days of November, the homicide count has jumped to 61, up from 47 in September.

Those numbers do include cases that originated outside Allegheny County but were handled by the Medical Examiner's office.

The 14-case increase includes the October death of Lena Davenport of complications from a 2013 shooting, and two September deaths also added in.

Still, the first two weeks of October were violent with nine homicides, and two as of the first four day of November.

The County is still on pace to record fewer homicides than 2024 when there were 98...and over 100 in both 2023 and 2023.
