National Drug Take Back Day is Saturday, the opportunity to get rid of unused and expired meds.

There are good reasons to safely dispose of medicines you no longer need.

First, they shouldn't fall into the hands of children and grandchildren, especially powerful opioid pain killers.

Second, some expired meds can become more potent and could interact with other drugs.

On the other hand, some out-of-date medications can be less effective.

Drug Take Back Day also gives authorities a chance to remind people not to flush old drugs down the toilet.

It's recommended you remove labels from prescription bottles or use a marker to conceal personal information.

There are numerous collection points.
