A hungry bear smashed its way into a local nursing home and came face to face with some of the nurses.
Charlene Elliott and other nurses at St, Andrews Village in Indiana PA had the unfortunate job of trying to get the 150-pound bear out of there this week.
She tells KDKA-TV they tried to lure him away with Rice Krispy treats but ultimately had to physically push the bear out of the nursing home.
Elliott said she picked up a walker to try to keep the bear away from the residents inside the home.
Her fear was the bear might swipe at the folks in the assisted living facility.
The Pennsylvania Game Commission tells KDKA Radio the bear had left the area by the time they arrived on Tuesday night, but set up a bear trip and caught it Thursday morning.
The bear was “processed and relocated to a better environment,” Lt. Andrew Harvey, State Game Warden told KDKA Radio
Harvey says the bear was a yearling that has likely been just pushed away from its mother as she prepares to bred again this summer.
"I want to stress that this is not a usual occurrence and remind people to keep food sources such as garbage and bird feeders away from bears," says Harvey.
