I-70 reopens after wrong-way crash involving 3 tractor-trailers

A wrong way crash closed the eastbound lanes of I-70 in Westmoreland County for several hours Tuesday morning.

An SUV traveling the wrong way in the eastbound lanes collided head-on with a tractor-trailer and then struck a second tractor-trailer around 12:45 a.m. near Exit 54 in Hempfield Township, spinning out of control and hitting a third tractor-trailer.

The first tractor-trailer caught fire and the second one leaked fuel onto the highway.

State Police say 80-year-old Daniel Oliver of Greensburg was driving the wrong way in the SUV.

The drivers were injured and taken to a hospital, conditions unknown.

This is the third wrong-way collision reported around the Pittsburgh area in the past week.
