Overhaul of I-79/Wexford interchange progressing

Pittsburgh's Headlines: June 2, 2026

Work is progressing on the overhaul of the I-79/Wexford Interchange.

Beam deliveries and placements are beginning this month, setting the stage for the eventual construction of two new ramps linking Rt. 910 and Interstate 79.

PennDOT's Steve Sneddon told me at an April news conference the work will mean occasional overnight restrictions.

“We’re going to have three nights of intermittent stoppages and then three nights of a closure and detour where you go out to Warrendale and just loop around and come back down, same restrictions off-peak hours,” said Sneddon.

The exact nights are still being determined.

The project is designed to eliminate the daily backups that form as drivers, trying to take the Wexford Exit, hit a red light, forming a line that seeps back onto the highway.
