Iconic Oakland bar Hemingway's to close this spring

A beloved bar in Oakland has announced it will be closing this spring.

Hemingway’s on Forbes Avenue will close in May after over 40 years in business.

“We are incredibly sad to be closing this chapter, but we are deeply grateful for over 40 years of memories, laughter, late nights, friendships, and traditions shared within these walls,” Hemingway’s wrote on social media.

The bar in the heart of Pitt’s campus is inviting everyone to stop in before May to “grab a shot pitcher, find your picture on the way, relive the moments that made Hems Hems.”

“I truly appreciate every employee we’ve had and every customer we’ve served. I’ve had a ball,” said owner John Elavsky.

Hemingway’s adds they’re selling a limited amount of merchandize and will be available until its gone.

Comments to the bar’s upcoming closure expressed shock and sadness.

“I’m sick,” said one person.

“Oh my God, that’s terrible”, “NOOOO” and “How could this happen” were just some of the comments.

Hemingway’s opened in 1983. No word on why the bar is closing.
