The last two weeks have challenged Americans. From the Supreme Court rulings on abortion and guns to the January 6th Committee hearings and high inflation and gasoline prices, regardless of your position, it has been a turbulent ride.
Independence Day gives us an opportunity to take a breath and reconnect with the people and things we're grateful for.
It is our custom to celebrate with family and friends, have picnics and barbeques and enjoy a day off.
As we're doing that, let's remember: What unites us is more important than what divides us, even in times like these.
He could not have known it then, but Thomas Jefferson left us with these wise words in a letter to a friend: "I never considered a difference of opinion in politics, in religion, in philosophy, as cause for withdrawing from a friend."
To you, our friends, we wish you a Happy 4th of July.
